About the Artist:
I have worked with cloth and thread since I was a small child. Over the years I have made many large handquilted wallhangings from original designs. Recently I have shifted my focus to working with original imagery, adding intricate machine and hand embellishment. I employ a variety of techniques to express ideas with textiles, and I draw upon an extensive fabric stash, going back for decades, to add interest and depth to my compositions. I live in beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and draw constant inspiration from my surroundings.
Artist's Statement:
The forms and colors of nature fascinate me. I have created an extensive organic garden, which constantly delights me with its flowers, fruit, and fauna. I am also drawn to ordinary weeds and wild plants that are often overlooked. I have spent years taking photographs in the garden and nearby woodlands, and these photos make their way into my artwork. I also use plant material directly in creating cyanotypes (blueprints) and heliographic prints (sunprints done with photo-reactive paints). My goal in creating art is to capture the beauty of small details in textures and shapes, and bring a sense of joy and happiness to the viewer. I also hope to raise awareness about how fragile the natural world is, and how deserving of our respect.
